Weather

New Jersey is located about half way between the Equator and North Pole, and is 166 miles long and 65 miles wide at its greatest width. According to the Office of the State Climatologist at Rutgers University, New Jersey has four climate zones.

There is a marked difference in climate between Cape May in the south and the Kittatinny Mountains of northwestern New Jersey.

What is lightning?

Many areas in New Jersey receive 25 to 30 thunderstorms per year, with fewer storms near the coast than farther inland.

You have probably seen bright flashes of light or heard loud rumbling during a thunderstorm, but what is actually happening?
